Dr. Ambeau’s Training in Forensic Psychology

Dr. Kathryn Ambeau’s career in forensic psychology reflects a longstanding commitment to scientific rigor and the practical application of psychological knowledge within the legal system.

During her doctoral studies at the University of New Orleans, she worked as a graduate researcher with the Louisiana MacArthur Foundation’s Model for Change initiative, contributing to juvenile justice reform efforts focused on reducing racial and ethnic disparities and improving evidence-based decision-making for justice-involved youth across several Louisiana parishes.

Dr. Ambeau’s master’s thesis examined adolescent sexual offending and callous–unemotional traits, exploring developmental patterns associated with psychopathy. Building on this foundation, her doctoral dissertation provided a comprehensive analysis of juvenile offender subtypes, offense characteristics, and outcome variables relevant to rehabilitation and recidivism.

Following her doctorate, Dr. Ambeau completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship specializing in forensic and clinical assessment. Her advanced training encompassed a range of civil forensic evaluations, including personal injury, emotional damages, and employment-related assessments. She also received extensive experience conducting evaluations for fitness-for-duty and pre-employment screening of law enforcement and federal officers, as well as criminal forensic assessments involving competency, sanity, and sentencing considerations.

Today, Dr. Ambeau draws on this diverse training and years of professional experience to provide objective, evidence-based psychological opinions in both criminal and civil matters. Her work is characterized by careful preparation, clear communication, and an ongoing commitment to bridging the gap between psychology and the law.

“Dr. Ambeau is confident, attentive and insightful. I have retained her for psychological testing and testimony regarding competency to stand trial on several difficult cases and routinely recommend her to other attorneys in my office.
